My Holiday Sweater

The first time I saw the movie "The Holiday", I fell in love... with a sweater. I absolutely loved the white cabled sweater that Cameron Diaz wore and from then on it was "Jude who??". I searched and I Googled, looking high and low for who made this sweater and where I could purchase it. I found out that it was made by TSE Cashmere and it could be purchased on their website here. YAY! For $995.00!!!! NOOO! Now, I used to work in fashion so I am not shocked by the high price tag, but that price is a little too steep for me. But I am a knitter and I just knew if I could find a pattern that is close to this, I could knit it up. So I went to Ravelry (seriously, Thank God for Ravelry) and I found the exact pattern for the sweater!!

Pattern: Fireside Sweater by Amber Allison
Yarn: Schachenmayr nomotta Extra Merino Big in color 102
Needles: size US 9

I made a few mods which are all in the construction. I added an inch to the length. I shortened the sleeves by 2 inches and knit them flat instead of in the round. I also switched the buttons from the right side of the sweater to the left side. I think the fit is pretty good - I have a little extra room but the sweater is so nice and cozy.

I really love the yarn. It shows off the cables really well and it was nice to knit with. It was a bit less bulky than I thought it was going to be so I had to go down one needle size to get a denser fabric. I absolutely love this sweater!

Looks great! I want to make it, too but think I will make my own version - though I like your version much better than the Fireside one. I like a little extra room and I am NOT a Cameron Diaz size 4! I'm looking for some nice wool yarn in worsted to bulky weight.

Hi Michelle,

Could you tell me exactly how you made the modifications. I am not a knitter and will be relying on someone else knitting this for me. You have made a fabulous job of it!

I fell in love with this sweater all over again after watching the movie over the weekend. I went on-line to try and find it. Would you consider knitting one for resale? If so, please email me at toulson@telus.net
Thanks kindly.

MICHELLE!!!! This turned out AH-MAZING!!! I too was in fashion and was shocked...and not...all at the same time regarding that sweater! I figured out it was TSE shortly after the movie was out on DVD and actually talked to their showroom (I was working in NYC at the time). At that point they only had a blue XL left...had no plans on recutting it...and even if they had I was in no position to pay the $1k either...(to tell you the truth, I was hoping for a sample!). I vowed to learn how to knit as a New Years resolution two years ago (only to eventually make this...I even bought the Ravelry pattern)...but I also vowed to start dating and neither has been successful (BOO!). If you at ALL are considering making it for moi...I'd adore you forever!!! missgabbieh@yahoo.com

Hi
I am also wondering if you would be interested in knitting this jumper for me as I would not have a clue and I really love it. Would you email me how much it would cost if you are able to knit it.

That is just beautiful! I LOVE cream + cables together. I noticed this cardi on The Holiday and instantly wanted to find a pattern and make one just like it. Yours turned out just perfect. Thanks for sharing!
