The Baby Blanket

I started knitting shortly before I learned I was pregnant. I thought it would be great to knit a baby blanket - but I didn't know much about knitting other than how to knit and how to purl. I wanted this blanket to be special given the fact that this was my first baby. I found a really easy pattern for a blanket just made from garter stitch. So I started looking for yarn - and I needed a lot of yarn - which seemed to be expensive. Everyone told me not to buy expensive yarn. The baby will spit up on this blanket and chew on this blanket and get this blanket dirty. Just go to (unnamed store) and buy some cheap washable yarn - which is exactly what I did. Acrylic. What did I know?

I really dislike this blanket and I am entirely mad at myself for listening to the masses. I spent a LONG time knitting (and knitting, and knitting) this blanket. It was sooo boring - but I really have that knit stitch down now. The yarn is not good at all. It also has has tiny hole in it from when I was working on it at my mother's house and her dog jumped up on me and I dropped a stitch and didn't know how to pick it up. Yelling and crying ensued. There are also knots in it from when I ended a skein. Again, what did I know?

I feel really bad for my son, Oliver, who has this first attempt at knitting a baby blanket for him because the next baby will have a much better blanket. I am comforted by the fact that I have a son and, in the long run, boys really just don't care about that kind of stuff.

Just Starting Out

OK - so this is my first entry in my brand new blog about knitting. I am not only new to the blog world but the knitting world as well. I have only been knitting for just over a year and I am very green but I love it! So if I have any questions I hope some of you more experienced knitters will help me out.

The project I'm currently working on is the Jacket with Seed Stitch Bands from Baby Knits for Beginners by Debbie Bliss. It's for my friend's baby girl, Avarey, who just turened 3 months old. Love the pink - it's so pretty! I just so happen to be knitting it on pink metal size 3 needles that my grandmother gave to me.

I really like the Debbie Bliss Baby book for several reasons: 1) I just had a baby - my son, Oliver is 4 months old! 2) the book is for beginners so it starts out with a very simple piece and each piece after that requires you to learn a new skill in knitting, and 3) everything is so small - it takes me no time to finish a project - and if I mess up at least it is on a small scale.

So with that I'm off to knit some more while Oliver is down for his nap.
