Something Easy

After the back-to-back sewing up of seams and sewing on of buttons of the two sweaters I just completed I was really ready to cast on something new and knit. I started "Project 1" of my little baby gifts I am knitting for my pregnant friend and it is very easy and very quick - which is just what I needed.

Here is a sneak peek:

Yup. It is just a straight up rectangle of stockinette stitch. But it will turn into something nice. I promise.

Umm... Happy Easter?

I have finally finished the sweater I was working on for Oliver for Easter. Better late than never. Oliver has become a very active 6 month old baby and I have become a very tired mother. But we are both very happy spending time with each other and that is what really counts.

Pattern: V-Neck Cardigan with Contrast Ribs from Baby Knits for Beginners by Debbie Bliss
Yarn: Debbie Bliss Cotton DK in navy
Needles: size 6, size 5 circular for ribbed front edging only

I chose to knit this sweater without the contrast ribbing in one colorway only. I couldn't really find two colors that I liked together for this sweater so I decided to make it solid. And it fits!

Back to Pink

Oliver's sweater took a bath and is pinned down, blocking. This has given me a chance to cast on the second sleeve (and final piece) of the pink sweater while I wait for Oliver's sweater to dry. I should hopefully have two sweaters complete very soon.
I have already been thinking ahead to my next project and I have decided it is going to be a few small baby knits for my friend who is expecting. She doesn't know the sex of her baby - and I don't think she is going to find out - so I am going to knit everything in white. I think white is so nice for babies. I will be so excited to start a new project!

A Little Down

I have been a little down lately. "Why?" you ask. Well, I woke up this morning, April 12th, to see big flakes of snow falling from the sky. I mean, its spring, right? Where are the green leaves and green grass and blue sky and birds chirping? I am really ready for the warm weather and walks and trips to the park with Oliver. This spring sucks!

I think this is affecting my general enthusiasm for knitting. Not to mention that I have finished knitting all of the pieces of Oliver's sweater and now comes the part I dread: sewing up the seams. Ugh! Just the thought of it makes me want to get back into bed and pull the covers over my head. I also think that the sweater is going to be too small for him. I measured him 3 times before I started knitting it and checked my gauge. Everything was on track. It was even going to be too big for him. Great! Room to grow! Ya right! Not the way Oliver is growing. Yesterday was his 6 month doctor appointment and after his measurements were taken the doctor showed me how he is progressing. He is off the charts in length and in the 85th percentile for weight. I've got a long but slim baby. He grew another inch and a half in the past 2 months. I am very happy I have a very healthy baby. On the flip side, it is killer when I try to knit him anything. I think my next project will be for myself knowing that I have ceased to grow and when I finish whatever I choose to make for myself I know it will fit. Satisfaction guaranteed.

So Close

Oliver did not get his sweater to wear on Easter. There were setbacks which prevented me from finishing on time. The family took a little vacation to Florida and on the flight down I caught a very bad cold. I had to take night time cold medication which totally wiped me out cutting into my knitting time. So I basically got no knitting done for an entire week. But I came so close.

At least my babe had a great time. It was his first time at the beach.

And his first time swimming in a pool.

We all had so much fun. Now we are back up in the cold north where Oliver can wear his sweater as soon as I am finished.
