If at First You Don't Succeed......

....... try, try again. And when that doesn't work, try a new technique. And when that doesn't work just say "screw it" and move on.
The cardigan for Oliver is a v-neck that is fully fashioned so that the row of stitches next to the selvedge stitch on the V slants upward. The left side came out great. The row of stitches is nice and neat and looks like it is supposed to look. The right side - not so great.
The instructions called for knit 2 together through back loop. I did this 3 times, each time ripping it out because it just looked bad. So I looked through my knitting books and found another technique which says to slip 1 knitwise then knit the next stitich then pass the slipped stitch over it. This looked OK - not as good as the left side of the sweater - but better than the other way. So I moved on.
I don't have any pictures because everything is wet and blocking as we speak.

It has been slow knitting around here. We were getting our taxes taken care of over the weekend. But I did manage to get some yarn shopping done while visiting my mother in CT. I picked up some yarn to knit a little something for my friend who is pregnant and I also found a little something for myself - finally! After these baby knits are done I am going to treat myself.

Great News!

I just found out that one of my friends from work is pregnant. I am so happy for her. I am also very excited that I have someone new to knit little baby things for - especially now that I just got my new Phildar Layette magazine in the mail all the way from France. I can't wait to use one of the patterns.

Oliver's sweater is coming along slowly but surely. I promise you - I am not a slow knitter. I just have a 5 month old (who doesn't want to take a nap lately) to look after. I finished the left front and I am almost done with the right front. Not too bad, right? Easter is a good two weeks away - I still have plenty of time.

Progress

Making progress on Oliver's sweater. The back is done and waiting on a stitch holder and I have started on the left front of the cardigan.

This is a quick knit. I should have no problem being done in time for Easter. I had to add a little to the length - at the rate this baby is growing I didn't want it to be too small for him by the time I am done knitting it. He wore the last sweater I knit for him a total of two times before he out grew it. Let's cross our fingers that doesn't happen this time around. This one is made out of cotton so it should be a perfect weight to carry him into spring.

Coming Right Along

The pink sweater is coming along nicely. It is just taking so long to knit - the stitches are so small.

This is the first time I had to pick up stitches which was done around the neckline. It was easier than I had anticipated but wasn't without problems. I picked up the wrong number of stitches and didn't realize this until I got around to the end of the first row of seed stitch. Ugh! I had to undo everything and go back and do it all over again with the proper number of stitches. I think it turned out alright in the end.

I had to abandon this sweater for the time being. I had my eye on a sweater for Oliver that I wanted to knit for him for Easter. Just to be sure it will be done in time I cast it on yesterday.

It should go nicely with his blue eyes.
